Biography
When Gypsy Taylor picked up a pencil and drew Mickey Mouse at just 18months old, it was clear she was destined to design and illustrate for the screen.
Since then, her award-winning twenty-five year career has encompassed film, television, theatre and animation. She’s worked for renowned auteurs like James Cameron and Taika Waititi, and iconic companies like the Jim Henson Creature Shop, and (perhaps inevitably) Walt Disney Imagineering.
In just the past few years, Gypsy’s costume design work has traversed everything from the upscale contemporary Chicago of All Her Fault (NBC Peacock), to the 1980s newsrooms of The Newsreader (ABC, BBC), and the fantastical queer pirate ships of Our Flag Means Death (Max), for which she was awarded the Catherine Martin APDG Award for Design.
Other recent projects include the vibrant, contemporary comedy Wellmania (NETFLIX), Russell Crowe’s crime saga Poker Face (HULU) and her Assistant Costume Design work on the lavish fantasy The Wheel Of Time (AMAZON).
Gypsy’s work at Walt Disney Imagineering saw her collaborate with James Cameron to design the complex ‘Shaman of the River’ for the Pandora – World of Avatar theme park. Her collaborations with the Jim Henson Creature Shop included the series Me and My Monsters and Oscar’s Hotel for Fantastical Creatures for which she won a Streamy award for Best Costume Design.
Other screen credits include the horror films Mercy Black and 12 Hour Shift, and the romantic comedies Not Suitable for Children starring Sarah Snook, and Wild Oats starring Shirley MacLaine, Jessica Lange and Demi Moore.
Gypsy has also been part of the costume crews for Alien: Covenant, Australia, The Chronicles of Narnia | The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe and The Dawn Treader. The Babadook, Mortal Engines, The First Purge, The Wolverine, God’s of Egypt and X: MEN Origins-Wolverine.
